Residing in Galveston, Texas, is Rob, who, together with his partner and their amiable feline companion, Opal, enjoys the serene coastal lifestyle. Galveston has proven to be a catalyst for Rob's artistic pursuits, where creativity flows freely, akin to the ebb and flow of ocean tides.
Let's rewind to Conroe, Texas, where the artistic landscape was less vibrant. Rob's artistic journey commenced during his high school years, with art classes serving as his initial source of inspiration. College, though, presented a more complex picture. Each art course he explored left him searching for his definitive artistic path.
Creating Island Life
Rob's quest for self-discovery led him through various college-level art courses, offering diverse avenues of exploration. Despite these opportunities, he yearned for a platform to showcase his artistic talent, much like an artist awaiting a blank canvas.
Rob relocated to Galveston in 2015 to be with his husband, and he is immensely grateful for this decision. As a side note, Rob has a mental illness that can lead to severe anxiety and depression. Due to these challenges, he had refrained from pursuing his artistic endeavors, as his condition often hindered his ability to concentrate.
In 2016, Rob experienced a breakdown. Uncertain about how to assist him, his husband took him to an arts and crafts store. There, Rob purchased canvases, an easel, and acrylic paints, viewing them as potential therapeutic tools. This endeavor proved to be remarkably beneficial for him. Initially, Rob began painting as a form of therapy, but it evolved into something far more profound.
Rob fondly recalls being invited to participate in an arts and crafts market, an experience he thoroughly enjoyed. His artwork had never been showcased in such a manner before.
This craft show bolstered his confidence and emboldened him to approach a gallery he had long admired, known as "From the Heart Gallery." Summoning the courage, he reached out to the gallery's owners, who enthusiastically embraced his work. Rob enjoyed a year-long exhibition in that gallery, which provided him with valuable exposure.
Presently, Rob is engaged in a substantial amount of freelance work. People often remark that his art is infused with deep emotion, a sentiment that holds true. When his mental health takes a toll, Rob turns to the canvas, finding solace and release in painting.
Through his art, Rob aspires to convey the experience of grappling with mental health challenges and channeling that energy into creating something beautiful.
If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.
I don't paint dreams or nightmares, I paint my own reality.
A true artist is not one who is inspired but one who inspires others.
We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.
